Mission statement and policies

Mission statement
The University of Zurich is devoted to scientific research and teaching. It also performs services for the benefit of the public. The mission statement covers the identity, goals and role of the university in the academic world and in society.

Strategic goals
Together with the Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) and the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, the University of Zurich contributes significantly to the cultural, social and economic development of the Canton of Zurich. At the same time, the legal and economic responsibility for the university lies with the Canton of Zurich which is its biggest financial backer. The university's strategy is designed to take into account reciprocal relativity.

International relations
As an institution of education and research, the University of Zurich aims to demonstrate its prominent position in teaching and research in both a European and global context.

Gender Policy Code of Conduct
The University of Zurich is strongly committed to values and policies supporting equal opportunities for women and men. The Executive Board of the University agreed on the implementation of the Gender Policy Code of Conduct on 20 March 2006.

Disability Statement
The University of Zurich is committed to the principle of equality of opportunity, including Disability Equality, for all staff and students.

Protection against sexual harassment at the University of Zurich
The «Regulations on Protection against Sexual Harassment» came into effect on 1 May 2007. Sexual harassment is prohibited conduct and will not be tolerated at the University.

Energy Policy
The university’s energy policy sets out the strategy for a climate-friendly, efficient and sparing use of energy at the UZH. On 17 April 2003, the executive board of the university authorized the policy for 2003- 2012.
