Prof. Dr. Egon Franck
Prof. Dr. Egon Franck (born 1961) has held the Chair of Business Management and Business Policy at the University of Zurich since 2001. He studied at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich and, upon completion of his studies, worked in industry for three years. Prof. Franck returned to Ludwig Maximilian University where he took his doctoral degree in 1990 and qualified as a professor by receiving the venia docendi in 1994. He obtained a fellowship for independent group leadership ("Habilitationsstipendiat") of the German Science Association, and, in 1993, became a Research Fellow at Haas School of Business at the University of California in Berkeley. In 1994, he accepted the Chair of General Business Administration, Industrial Management in particular, at TU Bergakademie Freiberg.
Prof. Franck was offered chairs in Duisburg, Graz, Zurich and Munich. He was, among others, Dean of the Faculty of Economics at TU Bergakademie Freiberg (December 1996 to January 2000) and Head of the Institute of Strategy and Business Economics of the University of Zurich (January 2004 to December 2008). In January 2008, Prof. Franck was appointed President of the Zurich Academic Sports Association taking office in August of the same year. Prof. Franck has published several books and a number of essays on strategy and organizational economics. Sports economics is a focus of particular interest in his works.
