Dies academicus

Rektorkette

Historical background

The official foundation ceremony of the university took place on a rainy 29 April 1833, and the first Dies academicus was celebrated as early as 29 April 1837 to commemorate the university's foundation.

Since then, this day has been ritualized as part of university life. The President delivers his speech, the President's report is read, and honorary doctors and guests of honor are named.

Each year, prizes are also awarded for theses or other outstanding academic works by students. Representatives of private lecturers, assistants or students are given an opportunity to speak.

A banquet is laid on for invited guests.

Dies academicus is always celebrated on the last Saturday in April.
