Markus Graf passed away on Saturday, 17 February 2018. He will be warmly remembered by University of Zurich, the members of the Board of the University, and the Executive Board of the University for his valuable contribution to our community.
“The University of Zurich has grown significantly over the past few years thanks to its quality and focus. The university district in Zurich needs to be adapted accordingly on an ongoing basis. After all, the university’s competitive edge at both a national and international level will also be reflected in its infrastructure. This creates the right framework for success and enhances the university’s charm and appeal. The complex issue of real estate development will become extremely important over the next few years if we are to meet the future challenges and needs of a growing university.”
Markus Graf studied architecture and was member of the Swiss Engineering association; numerous specialized continuing education degrees rounded off his career profile. After working as director at Loreto Immobilien AG, Markus Graf was managing director of Real Estate Asset Management Switzerland at Credit Suisse (1995-2012) and CEO of Swiss Prime Site AG (1999-2015). In these roles, he managed projects in Switzerland and abroad, overseeing a real estate portfolio worth some 30 billion Swiss francs. He has played a major role in planning and realizing innovative building projects in Switzerland, including Sihlcity, Prime Tower Zurich, or the Basler “Messeturm.” Markus Graf also worked as an independent real estate specialist (Markus Graf Real Estate GmbH, Solothurn). His various mandates included acting as president of the foundation council at Swiss Prime Investment Foundation as well as seats on the board of directors of Swiss Prime Site AG in Olten and the Société Internationale de Placements SA in Basel.
