The many small and large cafeterias and cafés throughout the whole University are naturally also available to University staff. Most offer three prices: For students, staff, and outsiders.
Those who wish to eat out can apply for lunch checks, which can be redeemed in a large number of restaurants. The University subsidizes half the value of the vouchers. Most University staff are entitled to receive lunch checks; the exact conditions are detailed in the lunch check regulations.
The Academic Sport Association Zurich ASVZ is not only for students; staff of the University of Zurich are also welcome to benefit from these inexpensive facilities. In addition to a range of standard sporting activities, ASVZ also offers special courses such as acrobatics, meditation, and flamenco, to name but a few. Alternatively, you can treat yourself to a workout with a private trainer ‒ or even a massage.
Peace and Quiet at Lunchtime
The ASVZ relaxation room in the Uniturm (City Campus tower) offers you a place of peace and quiet. In addition, the tower prayer room is open to anyone wishing to spend time alone, meditate, or pray.
In May 2003, the University opened its first daycare center at Schönbergstrasse, very close to the University’s main building on City Campus. You can find other daycare centers through the kihz Foundation, which organizes childcare for the Zurich universities.
Training and Further Education
The University is linked up to the Canton of Zurich’s program of training and further education. Here you will find useful courses on subjects such as administration, leadership, communication, working methods, personal development, retirement, and many more.
In addition, HR has developed its own further education program for University staff in management positions. Details on entitlement to internal and external training and further education, responsibility for costs, and the contribution of working hours are set out in the training and further education regulations.
IT Services offers members of the University courses for various operating systems and software. The current list of courses can be found at:
Although the programs at the Language Center are primarily intended for students, staff can also attend courses here. The language courses are designed mainly to serve business and academic purposes.
The student shops sell stationary and office supplies at attractive prices - including online. A visit to the "Computer TakeAway" is also worthwhile.
University staff members who, for various reasons, are dependent on traveling by car can apply for a parking permit. As parking spaces are allocated according to need, waiting times vary depending on the required location.
