Requirements for Passing the German Exam

Registering for the Exam

You can register for the test in writing at the Admissions Office once you have been accepted to the University.

The German test requires good knowledge of German. Please enclose verification of any German courses you have attended with your registration form.


The test costs CHF 90.- and must be paid in full upon registration. If you have to repeat the test, you will have to pay the fee again.
A refund is only possible in the case of an act of God (illness or a death in the family).

Exemption from Taking the Exam

Doctoral candidates may be exempted from taking the test if their German skills are sufficient or if they have reached an agreement with their advisor to write their dissertation in another language.
Visiting students are not required to take the German exam.
