Resolution of the Swiss University Conference (SUC)
On 1 December 2005, the Swiss University Conference resolved that the former degrees of “Licentiate” and “Diploma” are equivalent to the Master's degree.
The addendum to the Bologna Directives is framed as follows:
- The degrees of Licentiate and Diploma are equivalent to a Master's degree. Upon request, the university that issued the Licentiate or Diploma will provide an attestation of equivalence.
- Holders of a Licentiate or Diploma are entitled to use the title of a Master's degree instead of the former title.
UZH only issues attestations of equivalence for Licentiates and Diplomas that were earned at the University of Zurich. The attestation is available in German and English; the cost is CHF 50.00 per language.
The new title may be used independent of a written attestation, but only as an alternative.
