Lorenz Goette: "Field Experiments: Theory and Economic Applications"

This course gives an overview of the design and analysis of field experiments in economics. It covers design issues as well as empirical strategies in analyzing data. The courses also has a strong hands-on component, emphasizing how theory shapes the design of experiment, issues of hypothesis tests, and effective presentation of a design and its result. The course starts with a thorough treatment of the methodological core of field experiments: identification of causal effects, standard errors, and identification of psychological mechanisms. In the second half of the course, several important topics in field experiments are covered. All the key concepts are illustrated with examples of cutting-edge recent studies, thus also providing insights into various economic applications in applied microeconomics and behavioral economics.
