Archaeological Collection

Would you like to learn about the interior design trends Neo-Babylonian kings followed when decorating their palaces? Or what the ancient Egyptians gave their dead for the life in the hereafter? How about discovering the mysterious world of the Etruscans or refreshing your knowledge of Greek mythology by studying the lively images on their vases? Perhaps you would like to become acquainted with the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans face to face. The extensive collection of both original pieces and plaster casts at the museum lets visitors embark on a fascinating journey to the world of antique cultures.

Did you know?

The Archaeological Collection at the University of Zurich got its start in the 19th century by collecting plaster casts of antique sculptures. Already in 1852, professors at the University – who were soon joined by their colleagues from the newly established ETH – used the earnings from public lectures to buy the casts.
