MAS SHE ABU – Teacher training program for vocational schools
Students in the ABU study program work toward either a “Master of Advanced Studies in Secondary and Higher Education for Teaching General Education” (MAS SHE ABU) or a “Teaching Certificate for General Education at Vocational Schools”. The type of qualification is determined by the students’ previous education.
The programs have the same content, but students in the MAS SHE ABU program study at the University of Zurich (UZH) while students in the certificate program are at the Zurich University of Teacher Education. The qualification can be issued from either institute, depending on students’ matriculation type.

For students with a Master’s degree from a foreign university:
Recognizing a foreign degree
The admissions office at the University of Zurich examines whether a foreign diploma meets the general criteria for admission. If so, the application is sent to the faculty or institute in question, where it will be reviewed to see if can be recognized in terms of subject knowledge and academic achievement. Under certain conditions, students may be allowed to fulfill additional requirement in the course of the study program. The admissions office sends students the decision on admission to the program with the decision on recognition from the Dean’s office or the institute.
German test
Students at the University of Zurich who are not German-speaking are required by the university’s guidelines for the German test to take a test to assess their German language skills.
Important:
Students may only enroll in a program for subject-specific teaching if they teach at least three lessons of general education at a vocational school. In certain cases an exception can made by the direction of the ZHSF, the institute responsible for teacher training in the Canton of Zurich.
