Mark Herkenrath's publications
Mark Herkenrath was born on September 16, 1972 in Zurich, Switzerland. He is a lecturer at the Sociological Institute of the University of Zurich. He studied sociology, political sciences, and constitutional law at the University of Zurich, where he also earned his doctorate in sociology (2003). In 2005 he was a visiting scholar at the Institute for Research on World-Systems, University of California-Riverside, as well as at the Escuela de Política y Gobierno, Universidad de San Martín in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Mark Herkenrath has been a member of the board of the World Society Foundation since 2004.
Mark Herkenrath's research and lecturing activities focus on transnational social movements and movement coalitions, theories of development and underdevelopment, global governance, transnational corporations, and the methodology of quantitative cross-national comparisons. His publications include the book 'Transnationale Konzerne im Weltsystem' (Transnational Corporations in the World-System), several edited volumes and special journal issues, as well as several peer-reviewed journal articles. He is the editor of two volumes of the WSF's World Society Studies, 'Civil Society: Local and Regional Responses to Global Challenges' (2007/I) and 'The Regional Shaping of World Society' (2007/II). He received research grants from UNESCO, the International Sociological Association, and the Swiss National Science Foundation. Mark Herkenrath is currently writing a book on transnational social movement coalitions and protests against neoliberalism in Latin America.
Since December 1, 2008, Mark Herkenrath is also working for Alliance Sud, the joint platform for development policy lobbying by Switzerland's six leading development organizations. He is responsible for the International Finances program (global financial markets, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, and Swiss banking policies).
