On 13 December 2017, the Swiss National Science Foundation published its new OA 2020 policy. From 2020 onwards, all publications from SNSF-funded projects should be digitally available free of charge. This was decided by the National Research Council. The SNSF has already covered the costs of publication in OA journals so far. From April 2018 the organisation will also pay the costs for OA books and from October 2018 for OA book chapters. It also simplifies the handling of these publication contributions. This makes it easy for researchers to fulfil the condition. The SNSF’s new Open Access policy fits in with the national strategy of Switzerland’s universities. In January 2017, swissuniversities decided that all publications financed by public funds should be freely accessible from 2024.
