The article Räuber an der Uni in the “NZZ am Sonntag” Feb. 24.2019 by Martin Amrein deals with the topic of predatory journals that take money from researchers, without consideration.

A recent SNSF study published on the open access platform PeerJ (Open Peer Review currently in progress) compares black- and whitelists on predatory journals. The four lists gave relatively little emphasis to the quality of peer review. One possible solution would be to publish the peer review at the same time as the publication, which has already been the case for some journals.

In the “NZZ am Sonntag” article André Hoffmann (Main Library, Open Access) and Matthias Egger (SNSF President) recommend consulting the website Think.Check.Submit before selecting a journal in order not to fall for dubious publishers.
