This year we celebrate the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements – in honor of Dmitri Mendeleev who published his approach to sorting chemical elements into groups and periods 150 years ago. In the meantime, many new elements have been discovered and added to the periodic table – comprising 118 elements as of today. It certainly has become one of the key concepts that come to mind when people think of chemistry.
