How can you find the right journal for your publication? To answer this question, you can first ask yourself these questions:

  • Is it a short communication on cutting-edge research demanding fast publication?
  • Or rather a full-length paper with lots of detailed discussions that needs more than five pages?
  • Is your work relevant to a broad audience or is it more suited for specialists in a certain field ?

There are different ways to select the right journal for your publication.

  1. through the databases Web of Science or Scopus
    – start with a search query (e.g. climate change ice sheet mass loss) and analyze the search result by journal titles
    – search for specific authors/organisations and analyse their publications
  2. on the journal page
The page “About the Journal” describes the main topic of the journal. If the main topics overlap with your own work, there is a good chance that your publication will be accepted.
  3. on websites
Websites like JournalGuide.com offer help to find the right journal.

And: There are many other ways: look at the editorial board, ask colleagues, etc.
