In the February issue of the UZH Journal (german only), Wilfried Lochbühler (Director of the Main Library) and Brigitte Schubnell (Deputy Director and Head of Department Science) provide information on why libraries are more popular than ever, despite the progress of digitization.
The Main Library can look back on a great commitment in a rapidly changing setting. Our history shows impressive developments in the range of services offered to the Faculty of Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine as well as to the entire UZH. The Main Library in 2020
- manages 3 consolidated and innovative library locations on the Irchel Campus and the Careum Campus
- develops services in the scope of digital transformation: Library Informatics / Publication Funding / Data Services
- provides services for finding and using printed and electronic media, including courses and lectures in information literacy
- participates in regional and nationwide projects and cooperations: NEBIS Network (from 2021 SLSP) / Kooperative Speicherbibliothek (Büron/LU) / Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries
Ongoing projects and new services of the Main Library also shape the current development. These include the organisational fusion of all UZH libraries into one Zurich University Library. The Main Library is playing a leading role in this project (further information in german only). Our services, the skilled staff and our experience from the past 40 years – together with the UZH library staff and their know-how – form the backbone for the future of Zurich University Library.
