The new PubMed is built on a completely new technology platform to ensure the future scalability of the database. A variety of changes have been introduced:

  • A new responsive design allows use on any devices.
  • More intuitive and easier navigation thanks to new features.
  • Results are now automatically sorted by “Best match”.
  • New text snippets allow a preview of the abstracts.
  • The “Cite” function and the “Share” function, now with permalink, can also be found directly in the hit list.
  • Automatic term mapping has been improved with singular/plural forms, British and American spellings and additional synonyms. (ATM-Tutorial)
  • Search details are now available in the Search History.
  • In the full record view you will find “Cited by” (data from PubMedCentral) and a page navigation.

The MeSH search is no longer possible in the main search field, but can be accessed via PubMed’s start page under Explore > MeSH-Database. In the MeSH database, the MeSH search can be set up as before. By clicking on Search PubMed, the search will then be performed in the new PubMed.

Full text access in the new PubMed is available via SFX as before

Your personal NCBI account works also in the new PubMed and allows you to save searches and references and more.
