The annual report 2019 is available and can be downloaded as pdf (German only) from our website.

The most important events:

The Data Services offering initiated in the previous year (in cooperation with the Central Library and the UZH Central IT Department) was established and further developed.

In summer, the library of the Center for Dental Medicine was integrated into the main library – Medizin Careum. This has improved both the visibility of the holdings and the services (e.g. opening hours), while at the same time enabling space in the Centre for Dentistry to be repurposed – a real synergy. In addition, the book collection of the Psychiatric University Hospital was integrated.

On the basis of the national Open Access strategy, the swissuniversities negotiating delegation achieved important interim results in the negotiations with the major publishers Elsevier, Wiley and Springer. A preliminary agreement was reached with the publisher Elsevier on a Swiss-wide “Read&Publish” agreement for the years 2020 – 2023.

The university executive board and university board reached a central directional decision in October/November 2019: The HBZ will be merged with the institute and faculty libraries to form the “Zurich University Library” as of January 1, 2022. HBZ has supported the project from the very beginning, as the existing small-scale structure, organisation and governance are no longer up to date in view of current developments. HBZ is actively involved at all levels of the project.

In the past year, the focus was also on innovations as well as service improvements in platforms and services. Another important focus was the ongoing preparations for the introduction of the new library management system Alma-Primo within the framework of SLSP from December 2020.

But also the essential services in operations, at the library locations and in the specialist departments were continued at a high level, thus supporting research and teaching at the UZH.

We wish an interesting reading.
