Since 1 July 2020, scientists at the University of Zurich are able to publish Open Access articles free of charge in journals published by Springer Nature. The prerequisite for this is an employment by the University of Zurich or affiliated hospitals of the corresponding author of the submitted article. The author must give the e-mail address of the UZH (or the hospital) when submitting the article.

A list of all eligible Springer Nature journals and a description of the submission process can be found on the HBZ website on Discount schemes with publishers under the respective publisher’s name. On this page you will also find an overview of all other publishers and discount offers.

However, the new agreement does not apply to Nature, Biomed Central and SpringerOpen journals! For several years the HBZ has been offering a discount on the article fee for journals of Biomed Central and SpringerOpen.

If you have any questions regarding the financing of Open Access publications or general questions about Open Access, please contact the Open Access-Team at the main library.

The agreement with Springer Nature was negotiated by a delegation from swissuniversities in collaboration with the Consortium of Swiss Academic Libraries. These Read&Publish contracts guarantee access to a publisher’s licensed journals. In addition, they cover the costs for open access publication at no additional cost for researchers from the participating universities. The agreement with Springer Nature continues the series of Read&Publish agreements with Elsevier, Karger and the Royal Society of Chemistry and is an important contribution to the implementation of the national Open Access strategy.
