Gender studies focus on topics of women's studies, men's studies, gender studies, and queer theory. They examine meanings of gender and gender difference, and they do so in an interdisciplinary, theoretically reflective, historically grounded, and culturally comparative manner.
The University of Zurich offers the interdisciplinary Master’s program in Gender Studies as a major subject (90 CP) and as a minor subject (30CP).
Thematic focus-points of the Master's program are literature and culture, non-European societies, transregional and postcolonial studies.
The direction of the interdisciplinary Master’s program in Gender Studies is undertaken by the Chair of Gender Studies and Islamic Studies. The various disciplines involved in the Master’s program are represented in the Fachkommission Gender Studies.
