International University Networks

The University of Zurich is as a member of various carefully selected networks. UZH is actively involved in the international research-intensive university network Universitas 21 (U21), the League of European Research Universities (LERU) and the university network Berlin-Vienna-Zurich.

Universitas 21 is a global network of 27 research-intensive universities collaborating on researcher engagement, educational innovation, student experience and general matters related to international higher education.

University Network Berlin-Vienna-Zurich

The Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, the University of Vienna and the University of Zurich form a strategic alliance. All three universities are comprehensive universities with a similar profile and the same interests, which are mutually beneficial. In addition to the joint evaluation of teaching, research and administration, the network also promotes junior scholars.

The EUA is the representative organization of universities and national rectors’ conferences in 46 European countries.

EUA Magna Charta Observatory

The Magna Charta Observatory of Fundamental University Values and Rights is a non-profit organisation based in Bologna, founded by the University of Bologna and the European University Association (EUA).

European University Foundation (EUF)

The University of Zurich has been a member of the influential European University Foundation (EUF) since 2019. The EUF aims to accelerate the modernization of the European higher education area and to promote high-quality student mobility.

International Association of Universities (IAU)

The IAU, founded in 1950, is the UNESCO-based worldwide association of higher education institutions.

Internationale Bodenseehochschule (IBH)

The IBH is an association of 24 universities from Germany, Liechtenstein, Austria and Switzerland.

United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI)

UNAI is a United Nations (UN) initiative that aligns institutions of higher education with the UN in supporting and contributing to the realization of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The University of Zurich has been selected to serve as a UNAI Hub for SDG-13 Climate Action from 2018–2021.
