Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2019

The University of Zurich has achieved excellent results in this year’s ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. In the category Human Biological Sciences in particular, UZH has climbed up 24 places and ranks 7th of all universities in the world.

UZH ranks among the best 50 universities worldwide in 13 of 37 categories. The best result was achieved in Human Biological Sciences, where UZH climbed 24 places up to 7th worldwide. The area comprises various categories from the Web of Science database, including Neurosciences, Anatomy & Morphology, Parasitology, Pathology, Immunology, Medical Informatics as well as Medical and Experimental Research.
Other areas where UZH did well include Ecology (15th), Veterinary Sciences (16th), Remote Sensing (17th) as well as Medical Technology and Communication (both 21st).

UZH also ranks among the top 50 universities in the following fields: Dentistry & Oral Sciences (25th), Economics (30th), Political Sciences (31st), Geography (42nd), Biological Sciences (46th), Biomedical Engineering (47th) and Mathematics (48th).

About the ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2019

The Global Raking of Academic Subjects 2019 ranks institutions in 54 subjects in the natural sciences, engineering, medical sciences, life sciences and social sciences. To be included in a subject ranking, universities need to have a minimum number of research publications during the period of 2013-2017. The publication threshold is different for different subjects. Bibliometric data are collected from Web of Science and InCites. Over 4,000 universities are evaluated in total.
