University rankings significantly influence how individual universities are perceived in the public eye. We are therefore pleased that UZH achieves high or very high scores in international rankings, both as a whole and in specific subjects.
However, such rankings are often over-simplified in media reporting, risking the spread of misinformation. The different higher education rankings vary greatly in terms of their methodology, regional or international orientation, subject selection and target group. Their results should thus be evaluated accordingly on a case-by-case basis.
In principle, rankings should not necessarily be taken at face value. At UZH, we have therefore decided not to allow our organizational or strategic decisions to be influenced by ranking considerations.
Nevertheless, we do keep a careful eye on university rankings, and would like to provide detailed and contextual information about them here.
