Road and Para-Cycling Road World Championships: Impact on Traffic

The 2024 Road and Para-Cycling Road World Championships, which take place in Zurich from 21 to 29 September 2024, will significantly impact traffic in the city. The event will particularly affect traffic in the Zurich city center. Travelers should expect longer travel times within and around Zurich during this major event.

Accessibility of UZH by Public Transport

City Campus

The buildings in City Campus will remain accessible via public transport through the main train station throughout the World Championships. From Saturday, 21 September to Tuesday, 24 September, access via Stadelhofen will be normal. From Wednesday, 25 September to Sunday, 29 September, tram line 3 will be rerouted and will run only to Kunsthaus. The Kantonsschule stop will not be served during this time.

Oerlikon Campus and Irchel Campus

Access to the Oerlikon and Irchel campuses by public transport will not be affected.

Crossing the Routes on Foot or by Bicycle

Crossing the World Championship routes on foot or by bicycle (which must be pushed) is possible. Along the routes, there will be pedestrian crossings where the race track can be crossed during race gaps, either under the guidance of traffic management staff or at your own discretion with due caution.

Traveling by Motor Vehicle

It is strongly recommended to avoid using cars during the event. If unavoidable, information on road closures and other restrictions can be found via the links below.

During this time, UZH's facility management services cannot guarantee access and parking facilities in our parking lots affected by the road closures. The Irchel parking garage can serve as an alternative. If you are interested, please contact the University of Zurich Parking Administration.
