As an auditor – a non-matriculated student – you can attend regular lectures at the University of Zurich to acquire knowledge for your personal benefit. Auditors are, however, not permitted to take exams and do not receive credit for coursework. The registration fees depend on the number of selected lectures.

Please proceed as follows to register as an auditor:

1. Select Courses

All courses for the current and the coming semester are listed in the University of Zurich's course catalogue. Auditors are admitted to all courses that are open for this group. The Provisions for Auditing Courses contain further information on this and other questions.

  • Open the course catalogue
  • Go to "Search"
  • Click on "Courses"
  • Mark "Open to auditors" (left side of the window)
  • Choose the courses and prepare a list

2. Registration

You must register in person at the Cashier's Office (Kasse) of the University of Zurich. Please bring the prepared list with you. Registration is possible from 15th August for the Fall Semester and from 15th January for the Spring Semester and valid for one semester at a time.

The fees must be paid in cash upon registration. When paying for additional lectures during a given semester, auditors must present their “Auditorenschein” (their record of lectures attended) which they received when signing up for the lectures.

The semester fees are (including registration during the current semester):

  • For 1 – 2 hours per week CHF 110.00
  • For each additional hour CHF 55.00
  • For 7 and more hours per week CHF 660.00
