Exploring the Origins of Language
ISLE is an interfacultary and interdisciplinary center of competence, which explores the origins of language. Our researchers investigate how human speech emerged, how it differs from animal communication and how it has diversified over time and space. One of the main goals of our center is to foster and train a new generation of researchers who will represent Zurich internationally as a hub of innovative research into language evolution and fundamentally transform the Swiss research landscape.
