Medical Research

There is close collaboration between researchers at the University of Zurich and the University’s hospitals in all areas of biomedical research. A range of joint projects and interdisciplinary cooperations is in place to enable the University to systematically help translate basic research findings into clinical practice.

Clinical Research Priority Programs

The Clinical Research Priority Program (CRPP) is a part of the Faculty of Medicine's efforts to promote strategic areas of research for the Faculty of Medicine and University Medicine Zurich. The CRPP builds on the University's excellent reputation in research and teaching, and attaches great value to knowledge exchange between basic research, applied research and clinical care.

Hochschulmedizin Zürich

Hochschulmedizin Zürich (HMZ) is an umbrella organization created by the University of Zurich, the University’s hospitals, and ETH Zurich to coordinate research on the interface between basic medical research, the natural sciences, technology, clinical research, and health care.

The LOOP Zurich

"The LOOP Zurich" is a medical center for translational research an precision medicine. It focuses on new approaches, better diagnostics, and novel therapies that will benefit patients and society as a whole. The goal is to enhance personalized healthcare by efficiently transferring scientific knowledge into medical practice. The founding institutions of The LOOP Zurich are the University of Zurich, ETH Zurich, and the University Hospitals.

Wyss Zurich Translational Center

The "Wyss Zurich Translational Center" is a joint venture between the University of Zurich and ETH Zurich, with labs for researchers working on projects in the emerging fields of regenerative medicine and robotics technology. The aim is to facilitate the efficient translation of research in these areas into new forms of medical therapy, and innovative products.

Personalized Medicine

Activities in personalized medicine aim at developing individual medical interventions in order to improve the quality and efficiency of medical prevention and treatment.

The "Swiss Personalized Health Network" (SPHN) is a national initiative designed to promote the development of personalized medicine and personalized health in Switzerland.

The "Personalized Health Alliance Zurich-Basel" by the University of Zurich, the ETH Zurich and the University of Basel is a network to promote the establishment of research networks in personalized medicine. Interoperability of sharing data and harmonized biobanking take center stage in these efforts.
