Werner Wirth, Prof. Dr. M.A., is full professor of Communications and Media Research. Since 2003 he chairs the department of Media Psychology and Media Effects.
He studied Communication Science, Psychology, Statistics, Sociology and Informatics in Munich. He was lecturer and research assistant at the universities of Munich, Leipzig, and Hanover (HMT). 2002-2003 he was professor for Online Commmunication and Multimedia at the University of Munich. Since September 2003 he is full professor at the University of Zurich, Institute of Mass Communication and Media Research (IKMZ) and there leader of the Department for Media Psychology and Media Effects .
His fields of interests are media psychology, media reception and effects focussing on persuasion and emotion, and empirical methods.
Current projects are dedicated to different persuasive effects of strategic communication. Research fields are political and prosocial communication, especially sustainability communication.
