Current thesis focuses on Schinkel’s panoramic urban design strategy for Berlin in the early nineteenth century, as well as the legacy created by his ‘architecture of intervention’ in the modern city. The thesis, through examining Schinkel and his twentieth century successors’ approach to the design of Berlin, will look primarily at how the site of the city has been constructed as a projected ideal from within the formation of the artifact itself. Supervised by Prof. Dr. Martino Stierli.

Thesis title: ‘The Art of Siting’. Explores the notion of the ‘site’ and its relationship to the architectural project, using historical as well as contemporary examples. Touches on the idea of ‘site’ within the discourse on sustainable architecture, arguing for an understanding of the site as an artifice to be determined or constructed by the project, rather than just a set of passive or latent environmental conditions.
