Jürg Berthold, born 1963 in Rüti/ZH, studied German, Philosophy and Comparative Literature at the Universities of Zurich and Bristol. He received his doctorate in 1991 with a dissertation on Louis Althusser's discourse, his reading and traditional reception strategies. From 1990 to 1993 he worked as an assistant for Prof. Dr. Jean-Pierre Schobinger at the Department of Philosophy of the University of Zurich; he worked on the Ueberweg project on the history of philosophy in the 17th century (France and the Netherlands) and held various lectureships on classics of theoretical and practical philosophy. His interest in contemporary French philosophy, in the connection between literature and philosophy, in questions of scientific theory and hermeneutics, and in the history of knowledge led him to his postdoctoral thesis entitled "Kampfplatz endloser Streitigkeiten. Studies on the Historicality of Philosophy". In 2015, he was appointed adjunct professor (Titularprofessor).
