Exchange Studies

Studying abroad at UZH

We recommend that all Master’s and Bachelor’s students spend some time studying abroad. You can already begin planning for that after having passed the Introduction to Sociology in the Bachelor’s program because you will then possess the requisite foundation needed to make profitable use of studying abroad.

The University of Zurich is extensively networked and maintains lively exchange programs with other universities in and outside Switzerland (see mobility programs). Please direct queries about the various exchange programs offered by the University of Zurich to the International Relations Office.

The Department of Sociology has exchange program partnerships with:

There is also always the possibility to organize your period of study abroad yourself.

You can also earn credits for modules taken at other universities in Switzerland (see Mobility within Switzerland – Outgoing).

Recognition of External Credits

For coursework that you intend to complete under a mobility program, a recognition agreement with the study program(s) involved must be reached prior to beginning your mobility placement.

Please note that all recognitions go through the following process:

  1. Get in contact with your academic advisor and mobility advisor as early as possible.
  2. Choose your desired university and program.
  3. Enter information on external modules (no. and title), assessments and links in the course catalogue.
  4. Arrange an appointment with your mobility advisor for a preparatory talk and get the recognition agreement signed before your departure.
  5. Studies abroad onsite. If need be, seek consultation with your mobility advisor on modules and assessments, and adjust the recognition agreement with him or her by e-mail.
  6. After your return from abroad, arrange an appointment for a concluding talk and signature.
