The Board of the University is the university's highest body. It is responsible for strategic decisions and directly supervises the university.

Extended Executive Board of the University (EUL): 2 Seats

The Extended Executive Board of the University is the body responsible for all academic matters at UZH (University Act § 32).

Senate: 23 Seats

The Senate applies to the Board of the University for the election and dismissal of the President and Vice Presidents. It can issue statements on matters relating to any area of the university.

The Senate meets twice a year.

Academic Disability Commission: 1 Seat

Commission of the Executive Board of the University

The Study and Disability Commission (KSB) was founded in December 2003. It supports the FSB department in fulfilling its task, namely the realization of actual equality for people with disabilities at UZH.

Catering Commission (Mensakommission): 2 Seats

Commission of the Executive Board of the University

The Catering Commission is an opinion-making body made up of 21 members. With respect to the cafeterias of the University of Zurich, it carries out the following tasks:

It directly oversees and addresses complaints received from both the users and operators of the cafeterias. It issues use policies and defines the concept for the cafeterias’ offerings based on proposals submitted by ZFV. The Catering Commission expresses its opinion to the Executive Board of the University on building-related issues and price proposals submitted by the operator. Furthermore, it prepares the annual report about the cafeterias for the attention of the Executive Board of the University and informs users of the cafeterias of this report. The Catering Commission is responsible for all business dealings which have not expressly been assigned to the Executive Board of the University or the Catering Council.

Children's University Commission: 1 Seat

Commission of the Extended Executive Board of the University

The Children's University of Zurich supports children in their search for answers and explanations for the phenomena of this world. Lectures and courses are offered in which scientists answer interesting questions.

Commission for Continuing Education: 1 Seat

Commission of the Extended Executive Board of the University

The Commission for Continuing Education is responsible for:

  • Planning further education policy at the university-wide level,
  • Approval of pre-financing for further training programs,
  • Statements on new continuing education courses or those currently being revised,
  • Development of guidelines for the quality assurance of further training.

The businesses of the Commission for Continuing Educatio is managed by the Department for Further Education.

Commission Education und Studies: 1 Seat

Commission of the Extended Executive Board of the University

The commission for Education and Student Affairs supports the Extended Executive Board and the Executive Board of the University, respectively, proposes measures to them and advises them in connection with cross-faculty and strategic questions of projects concerning teaching and studies, admission to studies, quality assurance and promotion of innovation in the area of teaching and studies, as well as in connection with the corresponding allocation of funds.

Ethics Commission: 1 Seat

Commission of the Executive Board of the University

Purpose of the Commission is to “support members of the University in their perception of ethical responsibility in research and teaching“, to “promote ethical awareness within the University” and to “represent ethical issues to the public at large". The Ethics Commission comprises 7 faculty representatives, 3 representatives from the member institutes of the Centre for Ethics, 2 university lecturers, 2 research assistants and 3 students.

Gender Equality Commission: 1 Seat

The Gender Equality Commission (GEC) promotes gender equality at all levels of the University of Zurich (UZH).
The GEC was established in 1991 and is an academic commission of UZH. The Commission convenes four times per year, generally at the end of February, May, September and November.
The President of the GEC represents the Commission on the Extended Executive Board of the University. The Office for Gender Equality and Diversity at UZH acts as the coordinating office for the Commission.

Commission of the Extended Executive Board of the University

The Commission UZH Interdisciplinary (UZH-i) has the mission to promote interdisciplinary dialogue in exchange with a broader public, organizes and finances lecture series every semester by members of the University of Zurich with an explicitly interdisciplinary focus, meets twice in the spring and fall semesters to discuss applications for support for lecture series projects.

The Library Board is a committee of the university administration. It is affiliated with the University Library of Zurich (UB) and is administratively subordinate to the Office of the Vice President Faculty Affairs and Scientific Information.

Commission of the Extended Executive Board of the University

As a permanent commission, the Personnel Commission is the Executive Board of the University's advisory body for personnel strategy and personnel policy issues. In this role, the Human Resources Commission supports the coherence of the UZH's human resources policy so that human resources policy measures adequately reflect the working realities and needs of the various groups of employees.

UZH Research Committee: 1 Seat

Commission of the Extended Executive Board of the University

Within the scope of its competence, the Research Committee decides on grants from the funding programmes of the University Research Fund (UFO). It can discuss strategic concerns in connection with the promotion of young researchers. The University Executive Board may assign further tasks in the area of research promotion to the Research Committee.

Commission on the University for Senior Citizens UZH3: 1 Seat

Commission of the Extended Executive Board of the University

The commission is responsible for the strategic direction and further development of the senior university's offerings. Other tasks include approving the program, annual fees and fees for special events and approving the annual report for submission to the Executive Board of the University.

The UZH Sustainability Commission supports the Sustainability Delegate of the UZH in fulfilling their task, namely to raise awareness for and foster a sustainable use of resources at UZH in teaching, research and operations.

Team Effort Award: 1 Seat

In addition to prizes for academic achievements, UZH also awards a Team Effort Award for special commitment by staff or students.

The prize is endowed with CHF 5000 and is awarded at the Dies academicus.

The mid-level faculty staff is represented by a delegate to evaluate the proposals.
