Free Pooled Covid Tests at UZH

From 10 October until the end of the exam period in February 2022, students at all levels (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD and continuing education) as well as staff including teaching personnel subject to mandatory Covid certificates can get tested for free at the official UZH test centers with pooled PCR tests if they can provide a valid UZH Card. If your test comes back negative, you will receive a UZH Covid Pass by e-mail.

The UZH Covid Pass is not a Covid Certificate valid throughout Switzerland; it is an electronic certificate valid only for events subject to mandatory Covid certificates, libraries and museums at UZH. It is also valid for courses at other Zurich higher education institutions and at the UniversityHospital Zurich USZ. It  valid for 72 hours after the test was done. Thus, for a normal week of university attendance, two tests would be required.

Note: The UZH Covid Pass is not valid for cafeterias and cafés or the Academic Sports Association Zurich (ASVZ) facilities.

Testing Method

Tests at UZH are pooled, i.e. 10 saliva samples are mixed together in a pooled sample, which is then tested for Covid.

  • If the pooled sample is negative, all 10 tested people receive a UZH Covid Pass.
  • If the pooled sample is positive, all 10 tested people will be asked to get an individual test immediately and self-isolate until their individual test comes back negative.

Test results are available within five to eight hours.

Rapid Antigen Tests and regular PCR-Tests

Other tests are still available at UZH; however, these tests are no longer free from October 11 2021.
