Research 

Philosophy of the 18th century; Early Enlightenment; History of Ideas in the Enlightenment; Philosophy of gender differences; "Damenphilosophie" and eccentricity in the 18th century; Aesthetics; Cultural anthropology; philosophy of art.

Working as a researcher, publicist and author: Radio DRS, SRF, ZDF, ORF. From 2006 till 2009 moderation of the TV show "Sternstunde Philosophy" at SRF (Swiss Radio and TV Station).

From 1989 till 2010 continual employee at the Feuilleton of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung
From 2009 till 2014 member of the jury Tractatus Preis für philosophische Essayistikof the Philosophicum Lech, Austria.

Born in Zurich. Studied from 1979 till 1984 at the University of Zurich (Philosophy, linguistic and German literature before 1700). Graduated 1984 with "Bernard Mandeville und die Darstellung des Geistes des Kapitalismus" supervised by Prof. Dr. Hermann Lübbe. 1988 PhD with "Immanuel Kant zur Geschlechterdifferenz. Aufklärerische Vorurteilskritik und bürgerliche Geschlechtsvormundschaft" (supervised by Prof. Dr. Helmut Holzhey). From 1987 till 1991 lecturer at the Departement of Philosophy, University of Zurich, academic associate at the Ethics Research Institute at the University of Zurich, editor of the „Schweizerische Arbeitsblätter für ethische Forschung“. 1992 appointed (scholarship) to the Getty Center for Art and the Humanities, Los Angeles, USA. From 1992 till 1995 research project (funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation) "Julien Offray de la Mettrie: Denken an der Nahtstelle zwischen Mensch, Maschine und Ästhetik“. 1996 habilitation "Jenseits der Maschine. Philosophie, Ironie und Ästhetik bei Julien Offray de La Mettrie." Since 1996 privatdozentin/senior lecturer for philosophy specialized in philosophy with cultural historical background at the University of Zurich. Since 2003 adjunct professor at the University of Zurich. From 2002 till 2005 research project (funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation) "Literarische Strategien der clandestinen Philosophie 1720 – 1770“. Appointment at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlinas research fellow for the academic year 2007/08.
