Say It with Video

ergonomisch arbeiten
In the newly renovated TV studio, all kinds of conversations can be filmed in a beautiful, quiet environment, well lit and with the best audio quality.
  • Are you hosting an international luminary in your field? Maybe you would like to film a conversation with her and post the video on your department website? But you need a nice, quiet environment with perfect sound.
  • Perhaps you are planning a video tutorial for your research project informing participants how to correctly collect the samples you need? Or you want to send a greetings message to a partner institution abroad?
  • Are you staging an important talk and would like to provide a professional live stream for online viewers? Or maybe you need to produce instructional videos for your teaching module for students to watch ahead of seminars?

We have the answer: in the newly renovated large TV studio or the smaller MOOC studio on Irchel Campus, UZH members can have all kinds of talks, tutorials and messages filmed for posterity. The studios are welcoming and peaceful, and the professional equipment ensures you get the best possible lighting and audio quality. The TV and MOOC studios are managed by MELS, the Multimedia & E-Learning Services of UZH.

Razor sharp images

Since the beginning of the year, 4K cameras have been ready and waiting in the TV studio’s newly designed set to ensure a sharp focus. This means the final product can also be projected at a larger scale or played on big screens.

The room itself adds to the quality of the final film: unlike if you produce your own film in your department, there’s a generous amount of space and the sound quality and lighting are professional standard.

Various backdrops

The TV studio can be used in a variety of ways: standing settings at a moderation table as well as seated settings with chairs and side tables are possible. For example, you can have speeches by a single person or a conversation between two to four participants recorded by MELS professionals against a colored background or with the UZH-blue set design. Alternatively, you can use a green screen to transport your speakers somewhere else entirely. The professionals at MELS are happy to advise you on how to make your video look good – often a simple, graphic background that allows the focus to be on the conversation partners works best for an interview. The MELS graphic designers can also create a background for you if you wish.

Live streaming

The TV studio is large enough to make recordings with four people. If you want to live stream a talk, there can be maximum three people in the studio. For example, you could have a presenter with two guests on-site, plus external guests beamed into the TV studio, like on the TV news.

If required, a teleprompter is available in the studio from which a presentation can be read from scrolling text or onto which a PowerPoint presentation can be uploaded as an aide‑mémoire. This allows you to speak freely without losing your thread.

The MOOC Studio is well suited for instructors.

MOOC studio for instructors

The smaller MOOC studio is perfect for one or two instructors who want to enrich their course with video elements such as talking heads. The MOOC studio is intended in particular for standardized instructional videos (including mass productions). It is also possible to produce individual explanatory videos based mainly on PowerPoint slides as overlays. Greetings messages can be produced at the MOOC studio too.

During the recording in the MOOC studio, the instructor stands at a high table in front of a neutral background. A green-screen background is also possible on request. The camera films the instructor face-on. If necessary, a monitor teleprompter can be used, like in the large studio. In addition, a smartboard is available for live annotations of the PowerPoint presentations.
