Osteology Research Scholarship (12 months, awarded every 2 years)

OF Scholars spend one year (September 1 to August 31) at the Department of Reconstructive Dentistry.

The OF Scholar will participate in the following clinical activities:

  • Treatment planning sessions
  • Observing clinical patient treatment
  • Assisting in patient treatment

The Scholar's time will be allocated to the activities below as follows (estimate):

  • 20% patient care observation and assisting in the clinic
  • 80% dedicated to research

Research is carried out in different fields encompassing bone and soft tissue regeneration, titanium and ceramic implant materials and the respective integration into the host tissues, treatment of peri-implantitis, conventional and all-ceramic restorations, basic research in dental material science, and the application of computer technologies in all fields of dental medicine.

Research is performed on three levels:

  • Basic research for dental material science
  • Preclinical research encompassing hard and soft tissue regenerative aspects, implant materials and the respective integration in healthy and diseased host tissues
  • Clinical research focusing on the establishment of treatment concepts for partially and fully edentulous patients on regenerative aspects for dental implants, esthetics and patient-reported outcome measures
  • Thereby state-of-the-art methodology is applied for clinical research, for hard and soft tissue histology, for material testing in a specialized laboratory, for special analysis of dimensions of hard and soft tissues as well as for dental restorations. Research activities as co-investigator in the above-mentioned research fields are encouraged. Scholars are furthermore involved in continuing education courses of the clinic on surgical and prosthetic topics of implant dentistry
