Digital Democracy: How Digital Technology is Changing Democracy

Verpixeltes Bundeshaus

Ringvorlesung Digital Society Initiative (DSI)

Digital technology is changing democracy. The internet promised to improve political engagement, but enthusiasm for its potential to invigorate democracy now goes hand in hand with concerns that digital tools are being misused to manipulate public opinion, sway elections and control citizens. Is "digital democracy" a contradiction?

The lectures in this series will address this question with a focus on the role of social media and fake news, both in established democracies and in countries on the edge between democracy and autocracy.
