Biostatistics

Why this program?

Biostatistics is the science of analyzing and interpreting biomedical data. The Master Program in Biostatistics combines in-depth statistical knowledge with its applications in biomedical research and provides the skills needed to become an expert in data analysis and study design. Due to small student cohorts, individualized advising is provided, and interaction with the teaching staff and among peers is close.

The Master Program can be completed as Mono (90 ECTS) or as Major with Minor (90 + 30 ECTS) and is the only – to date  – specialized program for the training of biostatisticians in Switzerland.

Who can apply?

Our Master Program in Biostatistics is a useful and direct continuation of a (Bachelor) degree in any field that includes quantitative aspects (e.g., Biology, Biomedicine, Psychology, Mathematics). Students with a strong affinity for quantitative techniques and an interest in acquiring state-of-the-art problem-solving skills for research in medicine and the life sciences are invited to apply. What can I do with it later?

A Master in Biostatistics gives you strong career prospects. Generally speaking, the demand for statisticians and other professional with quantitaitve skills is high. Our graduates are qualified to pursue highly specialized careers, for example in the academia or in the pharmaceutical industry. Moreover, financial institutions, insurance and marketing companies, other corporations with research and development departments as well as consulting firms regularly seek to hire (bio)statisticians.

Admission requirements

- Bachelor's or Master's degree which includes introductions to probability and statistics, analysis and linear algebra
- C1 level of English
- Working knowledge of the software environment R for statistical computing
