Spatial Data Science

What is Spatial Data Science?

Everything happens somewhere. Spatial Data Science (SDS) uses state-of-the-art technology, programming and spatial thinking to analyse and solve spatial problems. Whether the challenge is climate monitoring, urban planning or biodiversity conservation, SDS provides the tools to address it using spatial data. In this 30-credit Minor, you will learn about the entire data lifecycle, from acquisition and spatial modelling to the ethical use and visualisation of complex geospatial data.

Is this program right for you?

Are you interested in digital methods like GIS, remote sensing, and machine learning? Do you want to learn how to create automated analyses with Python to better understand human-environment interactions? No prior programming experience is required. We start with the basics and build your skills step by step. Because the program has an international focus, all courses in the Spatial Data Science Minor are taught in English.

What can you do with it later?

Spatial data expertise is highly sought after in research, industry, and public administration. This Minor will prepare you for a variety of careers, opening doors to roles such as GIS analyst, environmental consultant, urban planner, or data scientist. You will be perfectly equipped to bridge the natural sciences and computer science to make a tangible, real-world impact.
