Research Hub for the Ancient World

The ZAZH combines cross-faculty research and teaching in antiquity studies. It thereby strengthens UZH’s international standing as a hub for research into classical antiquity of the Mediterranean, including its forerunners in the ancient Near East and its manifold receptions. The core of the network’s research is the ancient Greco-Roman culture of the Mediterranean region in all its facets, as well as the far-reaching effects of this culture on the formation of European and non-European identities throughout the centuries. The focus is on the period of classical antiquity itself as well as its reception during later periods.
