Planning your Exchange Semester

Contact your home university to find out more about existing cooperation agreements with the University of Zurich.

The following options are available amongst others:

  • SEMP (Swiss-European-Mobility-Programme, formerly ERASMUS)
  • Faculty Agreement
  • University-wide agreement
  • Swiss Mobility Program (CH-Unimobil)

The website of the Global Student Experience provides an overview of the international exchange programs and partner faculties of the UZH.

Application for an exchange via a Faculty Agreement

In order to apply for the exchange program, you must be selected by your home university. Please enquire with your home coordinator concernining the application procedure. After you have been selected by your university, you will receive an email with the link to the online application form (Mobility Online). Please fill in the form and upload the following application documents to Mobility Online:

  • CV or resumé
  • Letter of motivation (1 page maximum in A4)
  • Proof of registration at your home university
  • Current transcripts
  • Language Certificate (CEFR B2)
  • Bachelor of Law diploma (if available)
  • 1 passport-sized photo
  • A copy of your passport (page with identification information)
  • Visa application form (if you need a visa for your stay in Switzerland).
  • Tentative course list (at least 12 ECTS Credits per semester; use the online course catalogue as a reference and download the template below "Study Plan"):

Selection procedure

Your home university carries out the initial selection and sends the nominated students' files to the exchange coordinator at the Faculty of Law UZH. If you are accepted as an exchange student by the Faculty of Law UZH, you will receive a confirmation letter and further information on studying at the University of Zurich from the Global Student Experience UZH.

Application deadline

The complete application documents must be uploaded to Mobility Online by March 30 (for an exchange starting in the fall semester or for a full academic year) or September 30 (for an exchange starting in the spring semester) at the latest.

No Existing Agreement?

If your home university does not have a program or agreement with the UZH or our faculty, you also have the option of organizing your stay with us independently as a visiting student. Information on self-organized exchanges at the UZH can be found on the website of the Global Student Experience.

Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for Foreign Scholars and Artists

The Swiss government awards postgraduate scholarships to foreign researchers through the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS).

For detailed information on the application procedure and requirements please visit the website of the SERI (State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation).
Applicants should complete the form on the right hand side and submit it together with the requested attachments to the e-mail-address provided on the form.
