Summer School 2017

Andres Castro

What was your first impression of Zurich?

I found a nice, quiet and relaxing city. I like the weather and I thought the lake and surroundings areas were amazing areas to get rest, take a walk and enjoy the weather. It is a bit expensive for a student budget.

What did you not expect to find or see in Switzerland?

I was not expecting such sunny days, needless to say I like them.

The participants of the Summer School are from 23 different countries, where are you from

Colombia

What is special about your home country?

Our music, our biodiversity and our people

Did you have a remarkable encounter with people from Zurich you would like to share?

In general I felt welcomed by the people I encountered. I especially appreciate the hospitality and disposition to help provided by Marta and Maria.

So far, how do you like the presentations in the Summer School?

I think all presentations reflect a huge effort to put complicated statistical methods and theories into concrete and friendly versions. I have found them useful and inspiring.

Did this Summer School meet your expectations?

Yes, however my principal motivations to come are actually in the topics of the last two days, but, based on these first three days, I am pretty sure my expectation will be meet

Did you have a good time in Zurich and are you planning to come again?

I did. I would like to come back, but I am a bad long-term planner, so it is hard for me to know an accurate answer to this question.

What would you like to be different in the next Summer School?

I believe there are reasons to prefer/promote/use free-software, so if we could have some more sessions in R that would be great.

What was special about this Summer School or what did you miss?

The combination of theory and laboratories was super useful. I probably would like to have much more substantive/theoretical discussion on the relation between methods and theory – but I understand time is limited.
