  • Welcome Anna Mann

We are delighted to welcome Anna Mann to the Department of Sociology!

Anna Mann is leading the project «(Im-)Possibilities of Letting Life End» funded by the SNF. It investigates with qualitative methods how non-life prolonging treatment and care are made possible in daily clinical practice.

Anna Mann’s research focuses on the emergences, enactments and transformations of «good care» at the beginning of the 21st century. It is situated at the intersection of science and technology studies, the sociology of health and illness, and medical anthropology.

On April 19, she organizes a guest lecture by Klaus Hoeyer from the University of Copenhagen. Further information on this lecture entitled «Data-intensive medicine: is there a role for social analysis?» will follow.

  • Welcome Sarah Berkinshaw

🍀 We are delighted to welcome Sarah Berkinshaw, a doctoral student in a sub-project of the URPP Human Reproduction Reloaded: «Human Reproduction in Societies and Markets».

In her dissertation, Sarah is investigating the causes of gender segregation in academic subjects and subsequent career choices. In particular, she examines how preferences for certain subjects and professions are shaped by values and role perceptions that have developed through social background and gender-specific socialization.

Dear Sarah, we are so pleased that you decided to continue your studies with us after completing your Master's degree in Sociology & Political Science at @uzh.ch! Here's to an enriching and fulfilling academic journey. May your time with us be filled with curiosity, resilience, and moments of profound insight.

    Kind regards,
    The team at SUZ
